Stroke Education for Spanish Speaking Caregivers

Viviana Avila - OTD Student - Keck Graduate Institute

The purpose of this project is to address the gap in stroke education in the Hispanic community by creating an accessible, easy to understand resource page in spanish. The needs assessment revealed that hispanic caregivers face major barriers such as language barriers, low health literacy, challenges in accessing stroke education, and low medical knowledge. This capstone project aims to address these issues by providing an easy to understand resources page that will have information on ways to identify a stroke, rehabilitation services, at home care, and resources for caregivers to prevent caregiver burnout. This project also aims to share the information with stroke support groups and make it available in community centers, clinics, and hospitals. - Faculty and Site Mentor: Alaa Abou-Arab OTD -
